Aquatic therapy refers to exercises carried out in water for relaxation, fitness, physical rehabilitation, and other therapeutic benefits.
Aquatic therapy is a growing area of therapeutic rehabilitation which offers our patients a chance to have early effective outcomes through active, rather than passive, treatments. Water is used to create support and challenges that promote a return to full function. The buoyancy that water lends is terrific for physical therapy as it decreases the patient’s weight bearing, allowing them to perform effective exercises in a safe, supportive environment. The ultimate goal is to transition from the pool and be able to perform the necessary exercises as part of a home exercise program.
