Skilled Nursing

Skilled nursing care refers to any patient care or treatment that can only be performed by licensed nurses.

Skilled care (swing bed) is another level of care that can be used after your acute care stay. This type of care can give you more time in the hospital to recover following your illness or surgery. You must meet certain criteria to qualify for this level of care. Skilled care includes:

• Routine visits from your doctor. Your doctor works closely with the healthcare team to provide you care during your stay.
• Physical, occupational, and speech therapists on site to meet your therapy needs.
• Social service staff available to provide support during your stay and assist with discharge planning and making referrals for support services when you leave the hospital.
• Mental health practitioner to help with any mental health needs during your stay.
• Nursing care provided by RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
• Pharmacists visit you during your stay to answer questions and provide education about your medications.
• Activities for you to choose from (some examples include):
  • Animal therapy visits
  • Wireless internet for your personal electronic devices
  • An iPad available for use during your stay
  • Word searches, puzzles, games, etc
• Home cooked meals and snacks. A registered dietician is available to review your dietary needs.
• Chaplain visits to meet your spiritual care needs.
