A medical specialty concerned with the kidneys and especially with their structure, functions, or diseases.
At Providence Medical Center, our nephrologist specializes in the treatment of kidney conditions and abnormalities. We often see patients with chronic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, acute renal failure, kidney stones, and high blood pressure. We are able to quickly and effectively diagnose causes and severity of kidney failure, and prescribe the right course of treatment that can include medication, dietary changes, or dialysis.
The Providence Medical Center Nephrology team strongly believes in preventative care, including annual screenings for kidney disease with a urine test, blood test, and blood pressure reading. Unfortunately, kidney disease commonly goes undetected until it reaches the advanced stages, making a healthy lifestyle extremely important. We work with our patients to prevent or delay the development of chronic kidney disease through proper diet, decreasing sodium intake, not smoking, maintaining a healthy blood pressure level, and controlling blood sugars in diabetic patients.
