Celebrating Our Little Heart Warriors

Mr. Gavin Marshall was born with an ASD (atrial septal defect) and 2 VSD’s (ventricular septal defect). He had open heart surgery to repair it 12/6/17 when he was 3 months old. He is now a rambunctious, healthy 2.5-year-old! He’s already a big brother and will be welcoming another sibling in July! He has yearly checkups with his cardiologist to assure everything is going great! Gavin’s Mom is Candice Marshall who is a RN here at PMC.

Mr. Finn McElroy had open heart surgery to repair his ventricular septal defect (VSD) on 5/11/16. He’s now a kindergartner at Wayne elementary. He’s a smart and feisty dude with lots of energy. We continue to do check-ups every 2-3 years to make sure all is well. He likes to show people his scar whenever asked. Finn’s Mom is Lyndi McElroy, a RN at PMC and his Grandpa is Mark Tietz, our Maintenance Director.

Ms. Layla Miller has a twin brother, but she was the one who got the special heart! Layla has a heart murmur. At 4 days old she was sent to a Cardiologist to have her first Echocardiogram. Layla has a Ventricular Septal Defect and has a medium to large sized hole in her heart with a 50% chance of it closing or getting smaller on its own. Her 6-month check-up showed no signs of concern and she is now a very happy and healthy 9-month-old! A follow-up Echo will be done in May when she turns 1 to see if the hole has closed or gotten smaller. Hopefully, she will require no surgeries but only time will tell. Layla’s Mom is Rachel Miller, our Executive Assistant.

Ms. Chloe Nelson had open heart surgery to repair an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) on 12/11/15 and came out a HEART WARRIOR! She is now a spunky little 5-year-old who keeps her Mom, Dad and two older brothers on their toes every day. She still has regular checkups to make sure things are exactly the way they are supposed to be. Chloe’s Mom is Michele Nelson, a RN here at PMC.

Mr. Gavin Prince is a one-in-a-million kid.  He has a left sided SVC (normally right), which wraps around his heart to meet his Coronary Sinus. As his pediatric cardiologist says, his pump is fantastic, but his plumbing is a little slow. No surgery required, just awareness. He is now an active, happy 5-year-old that loves hunting, fishing, and spending time with family (especially his brother). His family feels blessed to have him! Gavin’s Mom is Amanda Prince, PMC’s Human Resources Director.
